Currently one of the stars of the international opera scene, Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva was an Academician at the 2007 Festival. Now returning for her long-awaited debut in Aix, she has put together a deeply personal programme. In collaboration with Leonardo García-Alarcón and several musicians from Cappella Mediterranea, Rebirth is conceived as a sensitive journey through epochs, cultures, and styles, intertwining Baroque music from Spain, Italy, and England with traditional and popular song - a journey in which the delicacy of the Renaissance contrasts with the sensuality of the Baroque, and the most finely crafted elegiac poetry contrasts with the pulsating energy of dance music. Set in the heart of the Grand Théâtre de Provence, but resonating in the ears of each and every listener.
