After the success of the first edition of the Conductor's Mentorship in 2021, the Académie du Festival d'Aix renews in 2023 the invitation to mid-career conductors wishing to perfect their skills in opera conducting. Conceived as a tool to promote and enhance the status of artists working towards a greater representation of women in the opera world, this mentorship program takes advantage of all the opportunities that an international festival such as Aix-en-Provence can offer. It is both a technical and artistic development program and a professional springboard.

The invited artists will benefit from a personalized support program with the following common content:

  • Artistic, technical and professional advice from artists programmed at the Festival
  • Immersion in the work sessions of singers and opera rehearsals
  • Assistance in consolidating a professional network in the Opera
  • Conducting a concert as part of the Festival d'Aix

During their stay, the conductors are invited to work alongside the singers and pianists in the Vocal Residency of the Académie and to assist the musical director of the Balthasar Neumann Orchestra, Thomas Hengelbrock, in the first stage rehearsals of Mozart's Così fan tutte at the Palais de l'Archevêché. These moments of immersion in the vocal work and of interpretation of the singers in the heart of the rehearsal process of an opera will reinforce the skills of the conductor in this repertoire. They will also allow the preparation of rehearsals for a concert program mixing orchestral pieces and opera arias. This concert will be part of the Festival program and will place the conductors at the head of the Balthasar Neuman Orchestra for a closing concert of the mentorship on July 10, 2023, in the courtyard of the Hôtel Maynier d'Oppède. In addition, the Festival will encourage meetings with other artists and professionals throughout the program.

Mentorship for Women Conductors is supported by Adami. Adami, long-time partner of the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, once again marks its commitment to the service of performers through the mentoring programme for Women Conductors developed by the Festival Academy since 2021. Adami is thereby participating in the training, promotion and career development of a new generation of Women Conductors.
