Festival d'Aix

Words cannot convey our sadness...

Words cannot convey the sadness we all feel after the horror of Friday 13 November 2015. The shocking events that took place in Paris affect us all, some of us intimately, and target our very identity – an identity made up of freedom, of openness to others, of our love of life and of the Arts. Our youth, too – vibrant and enthusiastic, but whose carefree lives are now badly shaken.

At a time like this it might seem absurd for us to try and find some solace in music; and yet ... despite its fragility in the face of fanatical obscurantism and terror, it provides us with the stuff of memory, the creativity and the strength and resistance that we need to survive the attacks and invent a different future.

Today, the entire team of the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence joins with the international solidarity movement that is spreading across the world, uniting us against barbarism. We think in sorrow of the victims and we mourn them with their families.
