The Academy's activities will therefore be placed at the very heart of the Aix-en-Provence festival, and not just as a specialized and professionalising teaching centre, but also as a workshop where reflection and the sharing of knowledge will boost the Festival, program and help encourage contact with a more diverse audience.

Around sixty singers and instrumentalists have been invited to be in residence enabling them to attend classes, masterclasses, concerts and recitals, run by the greatest teachers, soloists and trainers.

3. The “Opera in creation” Workshop
En 2007, l'Académie créait un atelier de travail unique destiné aux jeunes In 2007, the Academy created a workshop for young designers and artist related to opera (directors, writers, composers, stage designers and video directors). This unique residence is settled in, in order to focus on contemporary opera and give all the different disciplines involved the chance to work together.
In 2008, this workshop is an important point of the academy. Under the supervision of Luca Francesconi and Pascal Dusapin, the artists will take part in a program of debates, meetings and colloquia in which renowned artists, directors, stage designers, librettists, set designers and opera singers will play a part.

Mozart Residency
Boosted by its internationally renowned level of excellence, the Academy is developing an advanced training and specialization program for young singers on Mozart's vocal repertoire. The training will focus on vocal techniques, interpretation and dramatic arts. The students will be supported by the greatest teachers, artists and voice coaches.
In 2008, the Academy is inviting sixteen singers who have almost finished their training or at the start of their careers for two-week residential courses in Aix-en-Provence in June and July during the Festival. The singers will take part in an intensive program of classes, rehearsals and master classes, some of which will be open to the public. They will also have the opportunity to perform in front of the public as part of the Academy's program of recitals that they will give in Aix-en-Provence and the surrounding area.
A major teacher working alongside two specialists on vocal techniques and interpretation of Mozart will supervise each residential course. Throughout the course, there will be pianists and voice coaches available to work with the singers in order to prepare the programs. Master classes with a choreographer will help them comprehend the relation between the voice and the body moving in space.

Purcell Residency
Directed by William Christie, the Academy organizes a two week residency where a selection of young singers and young instrumentalists will work on The Fairy Queen opera by Henry Purcell.
It will give a chance to the artists to know more about Purcell's work and his musical environment throughout lessons, master classes and rehearsals.
After two weeks of training, the artists will have the opportunity to put into practise their learning in an opera performance in a concert version.

Chamber Music Residency
Each summer the Academy welcomes young professional chamber music ensembles for a residential school. These ensembles come to Aix with the aim of perfecting their skills and learning new works alongside internationally renowned musicians. In Aix-en-Provence, the selected ensembles benefit from a high public profile and ideal working conditions. They are plunged into the heart of the Festival in order to develop the professional and musical contacts vital to their careers.
They participate in a program of classes and master classes, some of which will be open to the public. The ensembles also have the chance to perform in public some of the works tackled during the residential course, either playing with their original groups or with the soloists and supervising teachers.

Harp Residency
Several young harpists are invited to Aix-en-Provence in order to join the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra for the opera production Siegfried by Richard Wagner, directed by Sir Simon Rattle. Theses artists will benefit from a week of master classes and lessons at the European Academy of Music under the supervision of Marie-Pierre Langlamet.

The “Vanderbilt Music Academy”
The Vanderbilt University (Tennessee, USA) organises with the Academy a chamber music residency for its young artists. The musicians will benefit from lessons and master classes some of which will be public. The musical ensemble will also have the opportunity to perform in public part of the program they have studied during the residency.

Because opera is a complex world, which is often very difficult for young artists to apprehend, the 2007 Academy has organized a week of debates and colloquia incorporating all of the professions involved in opera productions.
Under the supervision of Pascal Dusapin and Luca Francesconi, the 2008 Academy is inviting young artists (composers, writers, directors, choreographers, stage designers and video producers) of different nationalities to Aix-en-Provence during the Festival so that they can meet and work with professionals and very renowned artists as librettists, set designers, choreographers, directors, opera singers.
