In 2007, the Academy created a unique workshop for creators of the opera world (composers, scenographers, writers, directors, choreographers, stage designers and video directors) in order to focus on contemporary opera and give all the different disciplines involved the opportunity to work together.
In 2009, this research workshop will become one of the strong points of the Academy. The artists will take part in a program of debates, meetings and conferences in which renowned artists, composers, directors, stage designers, librettists, set designers, opera singers… will play a part. (Dates to be determined)
To lead the debates, the workshop invites daily great artists who are part or not of the Festiva. For instance, last year, it was directed by the composers Pascal Dusapin and Luca Francesconi and the guest were:
• Peter Sellars, stage director
• Jean Kalman, light designer
• Lynette Wallworth, visual artist
• Patrick Sinclair, teacher at the Aix en Provence Art School
• Patrick Bouchain, architect
• Stanislas Dehaene, neuropsychologist
• Abbas Kiarostami, film director
• Thierry Coduys, sound creator
